Two-factor authentication

An additional identity check alongside a password. It reduces account-takeover risk; security keys and passkeys offer stronger resistance to phishing than codes entered manually.

How a second factor works

A password is combined with another confirmation, such as an authenticator code or a hardware key. A stolen password alone is then insufficient for normal sign-in.

Where to enable it first

Start with primary email, the domain registrar, hosting and the administration area. FIDO2 and passkey-based options resist phishing better than typing a one-time code into a fake page.

Avoid losing access

Store recovery codes securely, assign responsibility and check recovery procedures. A second factor does not replace device and session security; former employees’ access still needs revocation.
