What HTTPS protects
It protects the browser-to-server connection against reading and modification in transit. This is essential for forms, sign-in and payments. Protecting information inside the server is a separate responsibility.
How to migrate properly
Install a certificate, verify HTTPS and configure permanent redirects. Update internal links, canonicals, the sitemap and integrations. Images and scripts must also load securely.
What to check after the switch
Test forms, payments, webhooks and redirect loops. Enable HSTS after HTTPS is verified and avoid applying it to unprepared subdomains. A protocol change also needs indexing checks.
